Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Plan and prepare for support to electrical tradesperson
   • Access, interpret and apply documentation to support an electrical tradesperson and ensure the work activity is compliant
   • Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
   • Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues, and implement control measures
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Obtain and apply safety information and procedures throughout the work
   • Analyse work requirement and complete planning/organising
   • Identify and select required parts/stores
   • Pack, load and transport parts/stores and equipment to worksite
2. Support electrical tradesperson
   • Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
   • Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
   • Conduct support tasks in accordance with the tradesperson’s directions
3. Apply emergency procedures
   • Apply emergency isolation and shut-down procedures
   • Follow emergency notification procedures
   • Apply emergency first-aid
   • Provide site emergency information/reports to appropriate authorities

Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient provision of support to electrical tradespersons including:

apply organisation and site requirements and procedures

apply work, health and safety practices

access, interpret and apply technical information

identify electrical system components

identify electrical spares

apply operational maintenance diagnostic techniques

use relevant hand tools

complete maintenance and equipment records

apply emergency procedures

works effectively with others to provide support to electrical tradespersons that meets all of the required outcomes including:

organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating clearly and concisely with others to resolve coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities

demonstrates completion of the provision of support to electrical tradespersons that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

planning and preparing

selecting and transporting required parts/stores to worksite

following tradespersons directions to complete tasks

applying emergency procedures

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in provide support to electrical tradesperson through:
